Memorial Day Weekend

We kicked off Memorial Day weekend with a quick trip to Myrtle Beach to see Grandpa.  It was a beautiful weekend, and at the last minute, we found out that our friends would be vacationing in MB at the same time that we were there!   We haven't seen Ashleigh and "Baby Ryan" since before we moved to NC, and decided that everyone has grown up a LOT in the past few years.  These big kids splashed and played in the ocean, buried each other in the sand, and had a great time together while the parents lounged in beach chairs and chatted.  Truly, we are in a sweet spot!     

The Daddies watched the kids as they body surfed, and we even got a picture of the Mommies together!  

We had a picnic lunch by the pool and promised to not let so much time pass before we see our special friends again!

We spent the rest of our MB time at the pool in Grandpa's neighborhood and at the beach.  It was a lovely taste of summer and a rare treat for us to have a free weekend to be able travel without sports, commitments, and activities at home.  

We drove back home on Sunday since Mark had to work on Memorial Day.  However, he was able to come home a little early and we had a nice evening playing lawn games, grilling, and enjoying patriotic treats:

This picture makes me laugh.  I was pretty proud of my patriotic plates and napkins, as well as the little toothpick decorations that I stuck in their chocolate croissants (which are a special breakfast treat in our house!)... And Thing 1 and Thing 2 mentioned, "Why aren't we having red, white, and blue pancakes for breakfast?".  I have ruined them with my over-doing it of holidays, I think!  

Patriotic Porch Popsicles!

 Leah helped me make this red, white, and blue trifle, and it was as delicious as it looks.  We LOVE berries in our family, so this was the perfect dessert for us!

 It was a such nice holiday weekend and with only 10 days of school left, summer will be here before we know it!
