Snow Days

There is a reason that I've only written one blog post so far for the month of February.  This month has been full of snow, and there's only so much winter that we can take!  We did NOT decide to live in the south for this cold weather, but at least L&L were excited about the plethora of snow days that we've had recently.  February has looked like this:

So we did what everyone does during snow days.  We went to the grocery store before the storms came:

Apparently North Carolinians stock up on fruit rather than milk & bread in anticipation of the snow.

 

We played many, many board games while we were snowed in:

 

 

The kids gave lots of attention and love to their furry sister:

 

 

 

We celebrated Valentine's Day with sweet messages and gifts:

 

 

We took our first trip to the Emergency Room with Luke in the middle of a snowstorm:

Nope, not a sledding accident- Just an unfortunate headfirst collision with a coffee table.

 

The adventures continued when our Jeep broke down as Mark was driving home from work in the storm and the kids and I had to rescue poor Daddy, who was stranded in the snow with no working heat in the car.

 

Did I mention that there was an earthquake and an $800+ trip to the vet for Winnie last week, too?

 

Finally, things seemed to be improving and the snow melted.  We were back to normal routines last week when we got a call from school to pick up Luke, who got sick in the middle of class.  Doc Leah shared her adorable diagnosis with us, which was a much needed comedic moment in our unbelievable chain of recent mishaps/events: 

 

 

So, we did what we were longing to do:  We got the heck outta dodge.  We piled in the Volvo (reference above paragraph of Jeep breaking down), and headed on several restorative, therapeutic, road trips recently.  We went to Greenville last weekend and visited our "South Carolina house".  We socialized with friends, went to a birthday party, and did lots of fun things.  Most of all, we appreciated all of the room and fresh toys in our house after being cooped up in our small apartment for so many recent snow days:

This weekend, we took another wonderful road trip to Williamsburg to visit Bean and Poppy.  Most of our pictures will follow in a blog post soon, but I wanted to share a few from our excursion to Yorktown while we were there:

 

Yes, that is our family enjoying a gorgeous, warm February morning at the beach.  After so many snow days, it was an amazing gift, and a promise that spring is almost here!  There's nothing like toes in the sand, bright blue skies, and warmer temperatures to make those snow days seem like a distant memory!
