Spring Things

 

March in NC means the beginning of our spring activities, including rowing season. This is Luke's final year rowing with NCRC, and he and the other seniors are pictured above. The rowers return to afternoon practices on the water in March (after a winter of indoor training) and their first regatta of the season is a local scrimmage on their home turf. This year's Higgins Henley was lots of fun, as college club teams participated, and there were lots of mixed races.

Leah returned to the pitch as spring soccer season commenced. This girl has lots of fun playing on her team, which includes friends who have been teammates for a decade!

L&L competed in MPA (Music Performance Adjudication) this month. Their wind ensemble was awarded a Superior Rating (the highest honor possible), and performed Grade 6 rated music, which is written at collegiate and professional levels (representing the upper limit of technical and musical complexity). We don't take for granted the excellence of the music program at our school, and it has been a joy this year to have both kids in the same class band at NWHS. 

Leah also wrapped up her first season of Winter Winds in March. This was the inaugural year of the program, which consisted of rehearsals and indoor marching competitions for a select group of NWHS brass and woodwind musicians:

Mimi's annual Egg Hunt was held a couple weeks early, as we had a Spring Break trip planned and would be traveling for Palm Sunday and Easter weekends. These kids are never too old for this tradition:

This spring also brought the 4-year anniversary of my breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. I always stop by the Kate Bowler mural in Durham when I'm in town, and give gratitude for this great big, beautiful life!

Luke announced his college decision in April:

We have a Buckeye! 

Luke was accepted into the OSU Honors Program and awarded a merit scholarship, and we are so very proud of him.

This kid has big dreams, and we can't wait to see what the future holds!

NWHS Decisions Board

A few other delightful spring things include the new baby cows in our neighborhood. We love seeing them every day on our walks:

And last, but certainly not least, we had a wonderful visit with our dear friends, the Forbush family. Kate is my sorority little sister and they now live in Mark's hometown. Kate bravely defeated breast cancer this year, so we had much to celebrate!
