One of the major draws of living in the south for Mark and me is the warm weather. We don't have to worry about winter plans being cancelled due to snow, there is no need to ever scrape ice off our car windshields, and we never have to brave the inevitable crowds that rush to the grocery store to buy milk, eggs, and bread at the mere threat of an upcoming storm. When we moved to South Carolina last year, we were absolutely shocked at the reaction of the newscasters and overall population in Greenville as "the biggest winter weather event" of 2008 occurred, depositing 1/4 inch of snow (barely a dusting!) on the ground, which lasted for approximately 3 hours before melting. GE was closed, and Mark was told to stay home from work that day due to the bad road conditions. Schools even closed in anticipation of this "big storm" the day before it happened. The entire region shut down, and as northerners, we couldn't believe our eyes! So when we read the newspaper yesterday and saw that there was a forecast of snow, we chuckled and went about our plans for the day, thinking that we may see a flake or two. In fact, when the snow began yesterday, we bundled up Luke in his snowsuit and grabbed the camera so that we would have photo documentation that our baby did indeed "see snowflakes" while we lived in SC! We had no idea that by this morning we would have 4.5 inches of snow, enough to build a snowman in our yard, for the City of Greenville to be closed (no, I'm not joking!), and for us to eat our words about the mild spring weather that comes in March where we live. Our entire family has had a blast today on our "snow day" and took lots of pictures of this truly incredible "winter weather event!"

I was wondering if the MODAY MEGA-STORM, as the Weather Channel proclaimed it, was going to swing by your way. We made out fine... just a few inches. To say that everyone here is ready for spring is an understatement. It's been a brutal, cold, snowy winter. And neverending.

Wow! I can't believe that the whole city of Greenville was closed and that the schools were all closed just from 1/4 of an inch of snow! We got about 7 inches of snow! We were out of school on Monday and we had a 2-hour delay today! I'm sad that winter is almost over but I can't wait till I see you in TOPSAIL!

Snow isn't ALL bad when it gives you a chance to wear pink boots! It's good Luke had a chance to honor his Albany genes! See you tomorrow....hopefully our snow will be gone! Love, Grams
